Q: What it is your typical client like
at Espana Cycling Vacations?
A: Our clients are avid cyclists that enjoy challenging and longer rides, good food, and share a passion for cycling; you’ll be surrounded by like-minded people.
Q: Can you tell me how challenging the rides are?
A: If you do a fair amount of cycling in hilly terrain you will be fine. Most of Spain cycling tours rides are between 40 to 65 miles and will include hills. The longest day we have is 70 miles. There is one day when we climb to the sanctuary of Mare de Deu del Mont, which is a 10 mile climb with the last few miles being very steep, but the views from the top make the effort worth while. Most climbs average around 3 to 5 miles.
We recommend that you have at least a 39-25 gear; some of our guests opt for triple chainwheels. These trips are ridden over challenging terrain. Therefore you need to be physically fit to get over the hills and have a great time doing so. Racing to the next town is not our main goal. Riding at a relaxing pace with other cyclists that appreciate good company and camaraderie is. We encourage group riding. Come fit, you’ll have more fun.
Q: Does Espana Cycling Vacations supply bicycles?
A: Sorry, we do not. The best bicycle for this kind of vacation is your own road racing bike (no tandems, or hybrids). We recommend that you pack your bicycle in a hard or soft sided bicycle case specific for traveling. Our mechanic will be very happy to assist you in assembling your bike.
Q: Are there any transfer days?
A: No, with the exception of a short stay at a 4 star Mediterranean resort in Tossa de Mar, we will spend the week at the Masia. Instead of spending time packing and unpacking each day, and finding yourself in a different room each night, you can settle in for the week and truly relax.
Q: Will my non-cycling roommate enjoy your trips?
A: Yes. There is a lot of sightseeing to do in the area, Dali’s museum in Figueras, ruins, churches, markets, art. Barcelona only an hour train ride away is a must see city. Our daily rides will finish by mid-afternoon giving you plenty of time to go exploring. And while we will ride each day, your time is your own. Feel free to take a day off and explore. There is also the possibility to go on a hot air balloon ride.
Q:What kind of weather can we expect to be riding in?
A: Depending on the time of the year temperatures will range from 60’s to the 80’s – excellent riding weather. There is always the chance of a rainy day, so come prepared with rain gear and at least one change of warm riding clothes.
